Why we built JB Linguistics
JB Linguistics was founded out of a simple frustration with the linguistics industry. Across both ends of the market, the same pattern kept repeating: large corporate language providers charging premium rates while paying their teachers and translators a fraction of what the work is actually worth. Companies hiring those providers were being asked to absorb the cost of proprietary textbooks, licensed platforms, and rigid programs that often didn't even match how their teams actually learn — and the linguists doing the work, many of them deeply credentialed, were the ones quietly subsidizing the margin.
JB Linguistics exists to close that gap. We've built a model that lets us charge fair, competitive rates to clients while paying our teachers and translators leading wages that reflect what their work is genuinely worth. Two principles make that possible. First, we've eliminated the materials tax: every JB Linguistics client receives all learning content, glossaries, recordings, and reference materials at no additional cost. Second, we keep our operating overhead deliberately lean — no per-seat licenses, no inflated platform fees, no padding — which means more of every dollar a client spends goes directly to the people delivering the service.
